25 MBA International Marketing students from Coventry University London Campus had a fantastic experience when they recently visited Japan. Read on to find out more about the business and cultural life they enjoyed.
We left London at 10am on Thursday and arrived in a wet and rainy Tokyo at 8am the next day.
Many of the students understandably wanted to sample the culinary delights of Tokyo, and set out to sample some sashimi, which typically includes raw tuna, salmon, scallops, prawns and a whole host of other varieties of fish.
We also discovered night time in Tokyo looks just like in the movies!
Company visit to Japan Rail
We had an interesting presentation on the working life of the head of Japan Rail’s Eastern Maintenance Division. We were treated to insightful talk on his career and progression through the ranks at Japan Rail.
Company visit to Nihon Kenko
We had an interesting presentation from the CEO of Nihon Kenko, a national construction company in a niche market. The eighty year old chairman of the company explained his ‘working mantra’ which has guided him through his successful career. Students were given the opportunity to ask questions on how to become a successful business person in the future.
HR Expo visit
One of the most interesting aspects of the trip involved visiting the HR Expo at Tokyo Big Sight. The HR technology on display was amazing with many of the offerings new to us. We received several demonstrations on how technology can monitor and improve employee stress and how talent management can be implemented online. Luckily the demonstrators spoke English!
After the HR Expo we took the train to Saitama to receive a talk on living and working in Japan from a UK expat who has lived in Japan for 23 years.
Finally some down-time!
Although we were not able to visit Tokyo Sky Tree due to the rain we were still able to explore Asakusa’s Sensoji temple and Nakamise shopping district.
