Guardian league table

Breaking ground in the 2016 Guardian League Table!

Last year, we celebrated the shiny new position of 27th in the Guardian league tables, this year we’ve blown that out of the water – we are now ranked 15th!!!

So, what are the Guardian league tables?

The Guardian league tables rank universities by student experience and facilities on offer:

“Other university league tables focus on research scores. We don’t because [we believe] they are not important to students. Students need to know how good the teaching is. Will they get regular feedback on their work? What do other students think of the course? And do they stand a good chance of finding a job when they graduate? Answers to all these questions are contained in our tables.” The Guardian

Just how well have we done?

As well as being placed 15th, we have retained our title as the country’s top modern university and we’ve achieved the highest ever ranking for a modern university!

Seven of Coventry’s subject areas are ranked in the country’s top 10, including its course in the ‘film production and photography’ and ‘hospitality, event management and tourism’ categories, which are second overall.

“Coventry University has nudged past many of its Russell Group peers to reach the highest position ever achieved by a former polytechnic in the Guardian league table of universities. Coventry reached number 15 in the table, higher than many of the Russell Group of research-intensive universities, including Birmingham, Edinburgh, York, Leeds, Glasgow, Cardiff, Nottingham and Newcastle.”

How did we do it?

Put simply, Coventry University is known for innovation. We’re fuelled by ambition and unfazed by big projects; the last few years have seen the development of the unique E&C building (that’s the one that looks like a ship), the worlds first disruptive media lab and our award winning Centre for Academic Writing – the first university-level writing centre in the UK.

Our students voted us into first place for assessment and feedback, and we came 2nd in the country for teaching quality – sat between Oxford and Cambridge!

What do the results mean to you?

Coventry University focuses on giving our students a first-class experience, across all aspects of student life. We aim to ensure that not only is the standard of your education second to none, but that your accommodation, protection, environment and overall student experience will be too.

Finally, a few words from the top:

“Today’s result has positioned us as the highest ranked modern university in the history of the Guide. Whilst we don’t define ourselves by league table positions, it’s a great external demonstration of our achievements and successes.

Our commitment to providing a high-quality experience for our students, our growing reputation for research excellence and our links with industry are helping to bolster Coventry’s reputation as one of the best places in the UK to study, which is reinforced by these League Table results” John Latham, Vice-Chancellor of Coventry University
