Third Annual Interior Design Trip: Berlin

Tutors accompanied 31 Interior Design students to Berlin during the Easter break. The students (from the first, second and third years of the course) were flown across for an immersive four day cultural experience. The trip was subsidised by CU’s Centre for Global Engagement.
What is Luxury?

Work from 2012 ID graduate Gang Jian Cui will feature in the upcoming exhibition What is Luxury? at the V&A. The exhibition “interrogates general ideas about luxury, its production and future. The relationship of luxury to change, context and conventions is scrutinised through historic objects and contemporary art and design.”
MSc Black Country Day Trip: February 2015
MSc Design & Transport students Yafei Wang, Karthik Satheesh and Wan-Ju Hsieh travelled to Dudley and the Black Country Living Museum, Tipton via Wolverhampton by train, tram and bus on Friday 20th February 2015, accompanied by tutor Peter Atkinson and his family.
Product Design undergraduate Tim Spears is currently interning as an online design editor at designboom in Milan. Reading (and contributing to) digital design journals/forums is fast becoming a daily activity for most creative professionals, but what happens behind the scenes?

Coventry University x Sitting Firm
Steam-bent ash components
Students in their first year of Interior Design were taken on a guided tour of local craft-makers Sitting Firm this month. ID have a mutually-beneficial ongoing relationship with the company – working together on student placements and projects as well as exhibitions and designs for their own furniture collection.
A visit by Centro was arranged by Transport Design tutor Elaine Mackie for final year students to present their work to Sandeep Shingadia (Head of Scheme Development) and Richard Booth (Strategic Development Manager) regarding their final design proposals for street furniture and waiting environments associated with the Sprint rapid transit system.

Recent Coventry graduate Timur Bozca has been crowned Young Designer of the Year in the 2015 ShowBoats Design Awards for his project Cauta (beating 33 other entries).
In the judges’ opinion, his design was “unique in its Dynarig sail plan, which, in combination with what was considered to be a very proficient, forward-looking exterior design, created an accomplished yacht of striking appearance.”

The design of gardening tools and their effect on the physical health of gardeners are being explored by Coventry University and the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) as part of a joint study.
David Rowles, one of our third year students, scooped the top prize in the inaugural Superyacht UK Design Competition at the CWM FX London Boat Show.
Sharing his views of the competition, David said: “It has been an amazing experience as I am totally enthused by boats. The competition has presented a lot of opportunities and there is so much to be achieved from being involved. It will also help to get us recognised. The invitation was a nice surprise, and I entered without hesitating.”
