Coventry University (CU) was pleased to welcome Dr Tan (President) and Dr Kho Sok Kee (Vice President Innovation and Enterprise), of Tunku Abdul Rahman University College (TARUC), CU’s esteemed partner based in Malaysia. CU had the pleasure of awarding Dr Tan an Honorary Doctorate on Friday 20th November 2015.
During their visit Dr Tan and Dr Sok Kee signed a partnership agreement for in-country delivery and progression. In attendance at the Contract Ceremony was CU’s Deputy Vice Chancellor Dr David Pilsbury, along with colleagues from the Academic Partnership Unit and the Faculty of Business and Law (FBL).
We were delighted to welcome President Tan and VP KHO Sok Kee to both recognise the exceptional contribution of President Tan to the development of higher education in Malaysia and to further develop our collaboration with this excellent institution. The partnership has grown rapidly and quickly developed additional dimensions – based on the commitment of both parties to innovation and high quality education.

The students who enrol on a Dual Award programme also have the opportunity to spend four months in the UK. The Study Abroad programme allows TARUC students to have first-hand experience of British teaching and culture as they study three modules on Campus. The Internationalisation Team in the Faculty of Business and Law ensure that their experience in Coventry isn’t just an academic one; they provide cultural trips around the UK including London, Liverpool and Oxford as well as sporting activities, personal development programmes and cultural awareness seminars with a strong focus on employability and creating ‘global citizens’. In 2015, FBL welcomed 103 Dual Award students from TARUC onto the Study Abroad Programme, with many now considering UK Post Graduate programmes in the future.
In addition to offering courses in Malaysia, we have a successful Progression Partnership allowing TARUC students to progress to Coventry University to undertake Post Graduate programmes across a range of finance and accounting subjects. We were pleased to attend the graduation ceremony of 10 TARUC students who studied at Coventry University, following progression from the Executive Development Programme delivered at TARUC.
