Global Peace Workshop 2014

Event: Global Peace Workshop 2014

The Centre for Peace and Reconciliation Studies (CPRS)Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University and CESRAN (an internet based think-tank who aim to bridge the gap between students of international relations and practitioners of international politics) will be hosting the second annual Global Peace Workshop 2014 from 23-27 June in the beautiful coastal town of Mugla, Turkey.

The Workshop aims to promote peace worldwide by identifying and introducing unconventional wisdom and practice. The aim is to explore the role of young people promoting peace through arts, culture and tourism. Students from all countries are encouraged to come together to identify the challenges and opportunities facing young people in building a culture of peace.

So what will you get from the Workshop?  A heightened awareness and knowledge of peace studies, communication skills and community. You will also have the opportunity to learn more about Turkish culture and wonderful food through day trips steeped in historical and natural beauty. The Workshop aims to create a space for participants to share their own culture and concerns to be able to build personal relationships; capacity and networking.

The Workshop brings together practitioners, academics and students of peace and conflict from institutions worldwide to explore this year’s five themes:

  1. Connecting Communities through Theatre, Poetry and the Spoken Word
  2. Cultural Diplomacy and Dialogue – Where Next?
  3. Safeguarding Culture
  4. Travelling and Tourism during and after Conflict
  5. Picturing Others: Portraying Conflict through Fine Art and Photography

The hosts are looking forward to building upon the First Global Peace Workshop’s success where they helped to expand both professional and personal networks with 70 peace activists from forty-seven countries worldwide.

The workshop will run from 23-27 June 2014. The participation fee is 90 Euros which covers the costs of meals and accommodation. There are also limited travel bursaries available and CU students can apply for IEMS’s International Experience Grants to get financial support towards travelling and subsistence costs.
