Advice for international students joining Coventry Uni!

Being new to a school isn’t easy, being new to a university may be difficult, but moving to a new country can be terrifying! Luckily, we have come up with 5 bits of advice for our new international students. Whether you are studying at an undergrad or postgrad level, at least one of these 5 tips could help make life a little easier for you.

1. Make sure you learn your new address.

It can seem like a basic thing, but knowing all your personal details is essential when enrolling, opening a bank account or even riding in a taxi!

2. Learn your student account email address and start checking it regularly!

Usually your university email address will be in the format of yourname@uni.coventry.ac.uk. If you have any queries for your lecturers or seminar tutors, you need to contact them through your student email.  They won’t receive emails from any other accounts, such as hotmail or yahoo.

3. Find your timetable.

The timetabling team sends emails to all students with their individual timetable as soon as they have enrolled online. If you have problems with accessing your timetable, you can go to your faculty building and ask at the reception, they should be able to help!

4. Attend the library induction session.

You’ll learn your way around the library, how to borrow and return books, where to find research material and how to access other articles and databases. Proof of wider reading and great references will add extra marks to any assignment!

5. Attend your first lectures of each module.

These lectures may seem unimportant when you’ve got a headache and are over-tired from freshers week, but they are important. They usually give an introduction to the module, it will be really helpful to gain an overview of what you’ll be studying and what each module involves.

We wish all our international students a great experience here at Coventry University!
