1. Ensure you’re around campus for Freshers week. It’s always buzzing with lots of activities and is a great chance to meet people and make great friends.

2. Don’t be shy. Everyone is new like you, so take this as a perfect chance to make a new start and share the experience with others.

3. Keep note of the information given to you during your induction. You never know when you may need to check back to it.

4. Look out for sports groups and societies advertising free trials for Freshers. Get involved and try everything, you’d be surprised at what you might enjoy

5. Take a tour around campus before you start classes. It’s always easier hurrying to lectures when you know where you’re going.

6. There are usually chances to sample some delicious food throughout Freshers week. It’s good to educate yourself on different delicacies and sharpen up your cooking skills before you begin fending for yourself. It doesn’t hurt that it’s free either…

7. Also, be sure to take some time to discover great sights of the city, and where the shops are!

About studying…

8. Make use of the resources available to you. Remember, tutors will always offer guidance if you don’t understand something.

9. Leave enough time to finish your assignments before the deadline. Pulling an all-nighter is never as fun as it sounds.

10.Keep an inquisitive mind. Ask no questions and you’ll receive no answers…

11. Don’t hold back during seminars. They are a great way to keep your learning exciting and allow you to add practical knowledge to your studies.

12. Always backup your files either online or with a USB stick or hard-drive. There’s nothing worse than losing an assignment because your laptop’s stopped working.

13. Use the careers and employability service. It’s never too early to think about what’s next for you.

14. Try to develop skills outside of your course area. Take on an Add+vantage module outside your comfort zone or give a new language a go; a challenge is always good.

About student life…

15. If you have a problem, talk it out. Good communication solves a lot of issues.

16. Look out for good bargains like two for one in supermarkets, meal deals for lunch and buffet restaurants.

17. There are great discounts for students at the local sports center, and the University’s own gym is free if you stay at priory hall.

18. Keep in touch with your family and friends back home, they’ve been your support system for the longest time and always like to hear how well things are going.shutterstock_15725818

19. If it’s feasible, getting a part-time job can really help you out. It’s even better if you can get one that relates to your course.

20. Be confident, outspoken and assertive. It’s not always easy, but these are strong qualities to have in later in life. Practice makes perfect!

21. Don’t put things off for too long. University is a chance for you to grow and become more responsible. If you can do it later, why not do it now?

22. Finally, remember that you are what you think, so think positive! Enjoy your life and live with excitement and passion.shutterstock_264221285
