Well we’re spoiling you and bringing you the next top ten ‘Student Hacks’ designed to help make for a more efficient process in your day-to-day activities, be sure to check them out and let us know what you think!

Cheese on toast should be a staple in everyone’s diet. However, if you don’t have the time to be playing around with your grill, you can place your toaster on its side for faster results with the same great taste. Mmm mmmelted cheeeeese…

2. Store your shopping bags in an empty tissue box
Keep your plastic bags tidy

At uni, and halls in particular, it’s important to get the most use out your purchases. Leftover shopping bags make great bins for clean-ups (well they do cost 5p now, so you might as well get the most out them!). An empty tissue box provides the perfect haven for all your plastic bag needs, keeping them tidy and easy to access.

3. Heat two bowls at once in the microwave
Microwave two bowls at the same time

At uni sharing is caring, and everyone loves a helping hand! So rather than waiting in line for your housemate to use the microwave, (an essential tool for many of your cooking needs you may find), heat up two bowls at once by simply putting one on top of an upside-down mug. And there you have it! Two cooked meals in half the time.

4. The Stack Hack

Naturally this hack will work with anything that is round and rolls around in the fridge. Simply attach the binder clip to the shelf in the fridge where you’re stacking your beers, and “Bob’s your Uncle”. There you have it, more space in the fridge… which may or may not result in more beers!

5. The Floss Cutter Hack

Cutting soft foods such as cakes and cheese can quickly turn into messy business. So why not try slicing them with dental floss? It sounds crazy, but as you can see it really does work! Although, be sure to get unscented floss to avoid your food being left with a minty-fresh twang.

6. The Chocolate Strawberry Hack

Perfect for parties and social gatherings, this chocolate strawberry hack is fuss-free and irresistible. Pour melted chocolate into the sections of an ice cube tray and pop the strawberries in after. Just leave them to set, and you’ve got simple strawberry-topped chocolate treats, ready to serve. Also, if you prefer the strawberries without the stem, poke a straw through the pointed end to remove the stem easily and cleanly. That’s two hacks in one!

7. Hang multiple items in your wardrobe using ring pulls

Stuck for somewhere to hang your clothes? At university it’s important to utilise the space you’re provided with, as on occasion you may not have much. Never fear, we have the answer (well for your clothing issues at least!). Take the lids from your fizzy drink cans, put them through the hooks of your coat hangers, and they’ll allow you to hang more clothes in your wardrobe should you need to.

8. Screen shot your timetable and save it to your home screen

This one is mainly for freshers who don’t want to look lost. Simply take a picture of your timetable and set it as your home screen, now you’ll know where you’re going by simply looking down at your phone… Who needs directions?!

9. UNiDAYS! Save money on essentials

As a student the chances are you’ll spend the next 3 years of your life living off the dreaded ‘budget’. Therefore, finding a bargain is a necessity with every purchase. UNiDAYS is an app that gives you access to a whole host of student discounts, whether you’re on the move, or at home. It’s completely free to sign up and all you need to do is become a student (which I assume you are if you’re reading this) so the hard part is already done. Discount offers from UniDays will go a long way in your 3 years as a student, so be sure to check it out.

10. Put your phone in a glass for a more powerful alarm

We’ve all been there… You’re about 10-15 minutes late to a lecture and have to do the dreaded ‘walk of shame’ down the steps. The lecture is paused while you sit down (that’s if the lecturer lets you in!), and the silence is deafening. No one wants to be that person, particularly if you’re a new starter. It’s best to give yourself enough time to get lost in the mornings, and an effective way of doing this is by placing your phone in a glass and setting your alarm. This amplifies the sound, making for more than enough noise to wake you up and get you out of bed!

Best of luck trying out these hacks, we think they’re pretty special. Be sure to let us know if you have some success, or know of any more.
