Academic Support

Student Support – Academic writing

The Centre for Academic Writing at Coventry University offers students individualised advice on writing essays, reports, dissertations, theses, exams and other assignments during their time at university and shortly after graduation.

What is it?

The Centre for Academic Writing began life in 2004 and has grown organically since then.  There is now a team of experienced Academic Writing Tutors, who work with students one to one and through a programme of workshops, together with a team of three lecturers who teach Add+Vantage modules at all three levels and also work directly with staff

How do I access this support?

To book a one to one appointment, or a place on a workshop, just click here.  The online booking system is simple to use and enables you to choose the most convenient time and the mode of appointment that suits you best.  As well as coming into the Centre to work face to face with a tutor, you can choose to have your appointment by e mail or Skype if you’re off campus or away from Coventry.  If you can’t get your head round the online system, you can also book an appointment through the Centre, by calling in or by phoning their Reception on 024 7765 7902.

Where can I get information about what’s on offer?

Full details of all our services and the events we offer are available on the online booking system, on our pages on the Student Portal and in the Centre itself.

Where can I find them?

Situated in the Frederick Lanchester Annexe, opposite the main entrance to the Library, the Centre for Academic Writing is open 6 days a week all year round to offer advice and support on any aspect of academic writing. The Centre offers appointments in the evenings and on Saturday mornings, which appeal particularly to students who are balancing work and studies.

What do students say about them?

The Centre gets lots of positive feedback from the students at all levels who use their services, from “extremely helpful and supportive” and “invaluable support and guidance” to simply “You’re the best!”
