Fashion students ready to rock the Kasbah

Whilst the final year fashion students may want to concentrate on perfecting their collections, they are also responsible for raising funds for the big Degree Show!

This is where fashion student Katie Eaves has stepped in, arranging an event at the Kasbah to raise the much needed funds.

Our final year fashion students will be showcasing their designs at an evening exhibition – taking place in the Kasbah nightclub next Monday, 9th March. Tickets for the event cost just £5.00 and all funds raised from the show will go towards the students’ final year exhibition at our forthcoming Degree Show.

We caught up with Katie to find out how the organising was going, what the show involves and why you should all attend!

What is the idea behind your catwalk show?

The main idea is for us to raise money in a fun and safe environment. This is the first time an event like this has been held at Kasbah so it’s exciting for both the club and us!  The catwalk will showcase over 40 outfits, we have 15 models taking part, including Miss Coventry! We’ll also have stands where people can buy some of the accessories that our students have created.

Who is the event aimed at?

Friends and family of students, employers who might be hiring and looking for new talent and even first and second year fashion students who will have the chance to see what is coming up in their final year! This is a great opportunity for communication within the creative industry. There are quite a few photographers that want to come along to try and network with the models, and vice versa.

What type of work that will be showcased and how it will be displayed?

It will be a runway and exhibition style event, showcasing everyone’s work from last term including over 40 outfits, garments, visual merchandising displays, fashion films, bags and jewellery!

Aside from providing the publicity for the show, what else have you been responsible for?

Almost everything! Securing the venue, organising garments, hiring models (although I did get a lot of help with this!), hiring the videographer and photographers, selling tickets, creating basic floor plans, setting up a pop up shop and much much more!!

How much money are you hoping to raise, and what will the money will be spent on?

Every penny that we make from this event will help pay for our part in the Degree Show. If all the tickets are sold, we hope to receive up to £1000, which will go towards our final catwalk show at the end of the year.

Finally, why should our readers attend?

Everyone’s working so hard to get it right though so it should be a great event. We’re expecting a good crowd and the atmosphere will be fantastic. It’s going to be a really fun evening and it’s supporting the next generation of fashion designers from the university so I’d urge people to come along for a look at the talent that’s on our doorstep!

Good Luck Kirsty!

Here’s selection of the final designs that will be showcased on Monday’s catwalk!

The catwalk show talks place from 7pm to 10pm on Monday 9 March at the Kasbah Nightclub, Primrose Street, Coventry CV1 5LY.  Tickets for the event, which is for 18 year olds and over, cost £5.00. Tickets can be bought on the evening or in advance by contacting Katie Eaves via email at  eavesk@uni.coventry.ac.uk.

Coventry University is fast establishing a reputation as a top training ground for emerging fashion talent. It has produced two winners of the prestigious Clothes Show Young Designer of the Year award in the past three years – with students having made it to the finals of the competition for the last six – and many others from its fashion course have secured placements with some of the leading lights within the industry.
