Christmas In Coventry 2015

Whether you’re planning on staying in the city this Christmas, or you’re just curious to see what Coventry has to offer over the holidays, UnCOVered are here to spread a little festive cheer and let you know some of the things taking place right on your doorstep!

Broadgate Christmas Market.

Have you noticed that Godiva square has got a bit more crowded lately? Well, in case you were unaware, the Broadgate Christmas market arrived on December 2nd, and will be open until daily until Christmas Eve Eve (or December 23rd, if you want to be boring!).

The market packs in over 50 craft, gift, food, and drink stalls this year. Why not pop down to grab some unique gifts for friends and family, warm yourself up with a pulled pork batch, or sip on some mulled wine in the pop up bar before trying out the rides? (Although, we don’t recommend riding the merry-go-round on an full stomach!)

Planet Ice Christmas Jumper Party.

Torvill and Dean, or Bambi on ice? No matter what your skill level is, the wonderful winter tradition that is ice skating can be enjoyed all year round at our Skydome! However, why not make an night of it and join in with their Christmas jumper disco party on Friday December 18th?

A festive twist on a Planet Ice favourite ‘Sub Zero Disco Session’, wear your best festive attire and get your skates on! There’s a great party atmosphere complete with a live DJ and other entertainment, plus prizes for the best (worst) knitwear!

‘The Enemy’ Christmas Party.

Ever since its opening earlier this year, The Empire (or the artist formerly known as Hush!) has proven to be a popular destination for party animals and music lovers alike. To celebrate, they are throwing a special Christmas event on Saturday December 19th along with their good friends, and local legends, The Enemy (the lead singer of which, Tom Clarke, played a part in creating and promoting the venue).

This live gig selection box features a performance from the band, along with guest acts Viola Beach, Hidden Charms, and the Commonjets – a perfect way to get your Christmas rockin’!

Carols By Candlelight.

Something to really get you in the Christmas mood here. Head down to the iconic Coventry Cathedral on the evening of Sunday, December 20th and join in with carols by candlelight. It takes place from 6:30pm, and is bound to give you that warm, cosy, christmassy feeling inside!

JJ’s Boxing Day Bash!

After a couple of days of the ‘usual’ Christmas traditions – you know, presents, big dinner, bad TV, overly extended naps! – It’s time for a big Christmas night out, so step forward JJ’s nightclub at the Skydome.

JJ’s is a really popular student location, and as Christmas falls over the weekend this year, the club is throwing a ‘crap Christmas jumper’ party on Boxing Day (which is a Saturday btw). The title isn’t a reference to the quality of night, but JJ’s request for as many people to wear as terrible a jumper as possible, as in, so bad it’s brilliant! Drinks offers, great music, classic knitwear, festive fun – what more could you want?

…and finally, the pantomime!

The good old festive pantomime is now considered somewhat of a national institution and classic Christmas tradition.

“OH NO IT ISN’T! OH, YES IT IS!” (I’m sorry, couldn’t help it!)

In honour of this, The Belgrade Theatre plays host to Coventry’s panto offering for 2015, Beauty And The Beast. The show is already underway and is due to run until 9th January 2016, and is bound to be a treat for all ages. Yes it’s cheesy, yes the jokes will largely be terrible, but yes, it is one of the most joyous of festive activities you can have!

standing ovation

Whatever your plans are this Christmas, we hope you have a wonderful time
and well deserved rest.

MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!!
