10 things that will make you smile

How many times have you smiled today? Start your warm up, as you’ll be giving the Cheshire Cat a run for his money.

You could be forgiven for thinking it’s the end of the world every time you switch on the news or look at your Twitter feed at the moment but that is not the case – not on our watch! And while there is a summer of fun lined up ahead, sometimes it is the simplest things that give us the biggest grins.

Get those gnashers at the ready, as here are our 10 things that we guarantee to make you smile today!

1. Read a letter, card or text

We all do it; save cards from the people we care about, screenshot Facebook statuses and spend way too long rereading old group chats. And why do we do this? For the memories, of course! Spend some time revisiting the nice things and maybe some insultingly good nicknames from your loved ones, to remind you of the good times.

2. Silly photo

Take a funny photo

We bet your photo reel is packed with gurning selfies and unflattering photos of your friends. Start scrolling and sending them to relive the times you screenshotted your snapchat (N.B. no dog filter allowed!)

3. Take a break to enjoy simple pleasures

Everybody is always rushing around and trying to do million-and-one things at once. It’s time to press the pause button and enjoy the simple things in live. Make a coffee and actually sit down to enjoy it rather than gulping it in a takeaway cup. Enjoy a relaxing bubble bath instead of a frantic 10-minute shower. Just do whatever you fancy!

4. Play your favourite music and dance

Put on your dancing shoes and let down your hair… or alternatively put on your slippers and jump around your bedroom. Nothing can beat a good boogie sometimes and if you’re looking for inspiration, check out our latest music to get you through the week blog.

5. Make a snack you loved as a kid

Absolutely nothing was better when you were little, than being allowed to have your favourite food for lunch. And you know what is even better now? You can treat yourself whenever you want (in moderation!) We’ll definitely be enjoying Snaps with Dairylea lunchables and BnB’s.

6. Grab your camera

Remember what we said earlier about remembering the fun you’ve had? Grab a camera and make new memories too! Explore somewhere new and bring home a free instagramable reminder, or take up a challenge like ‘100 days of happiness’ to give you hints and tips!

7. Make a list of all the things you’ve accomplished this year

We’re always so quick to focus on the negatives, that we often forget all the incredible things we achieve. Whether you’ve got your highest ever mark on an assessment this year, ran a half-marathon or even just defeated the Boss level on the game you’ve been stuck on for months, they all deserve to be recognised and remembered.

8. Watch a funny video

It could be a dance routine you made up with your friends or an infamous cat video (don’t pretend you don’t enjoy them), just because YouTube suggestions can sometimes may laugh so hard you break the sound barrier.

9. Take a nap

Before you call us Grandma, what a lot of people forget is how important sleep is to our overall happiness and general wellbeing. You might just be feeling run down and little power nap will revitalise you and give you back that spring in your step.

10. Catch up with friends and family

Finally, and it might seem like a straight-forward one, but make time for the people you care about. Whether it’s dropping someone a text for the first time in a while or organising a family day out, surrounding yourself with like-minded people will always give you a smile.
