A research team from the Faculty of Engineering and Computing, Coventry University were this November judged winners in the Research Category at the Structural Awards Dinner organised by the Midlands Regional Group of the Institution of Structural Engineers.
The University team’s submission for the award was on a pioneering research into developing configurated and reciprocally supported elements using novel and sustainable materials made from pultruded Glass Fibre Reinforced Polymer (GFRP) structural shapes. The research which is in its early stage aims to develop an understanding on the behaviour of mechanically and/or adhesively jointed mico-modules, with the ultimate objective of developing reciprocally supported space frame applications at technical scales.
Alfred Gand, structural engineer and Lecturer in Civil Engineering at the Faculty led the research. Alfred remarked “It is always well pleasing to see such pioneering research being externally recognised. The award is a testament to the hardwork and ingenuity of the research team, particularly the enthusiasm and energy shown by the principal research student, Harpreet Singh Sidhu”.
