On being an academic’s ‘critical friend’ – ARMA 2015 conference poster

The academic community is increasingly pressured to delivery excellent and impactful research.  With new requirements (such as Open Access) and increasingly competitive funding calls, research management can struggle to support academics in such unsteady times. Developing the skills to become an academic’s ‘critical friend’ can help strengthen bids and deliver better research outcomes.

This poster – Bringing steadiness in uncertain times: strategies for being an academic’s ‘critical friend’ in the post REF period – draws on a range of positive experiences supporting pure, applied and commercial research.  Yvonne Morgan (Research Funding Consultant) and Julie Bayley (Impact Officer) outline a range of strategies to help research management colleagues (i) act as a critical friend and (ii) build the skills needed.
