The Nigerian Community at Cov Uni

Chidiebere Francis Ahanonu is a coventry university student keen to discuss his experience here at Cov Uni as well as the nigerian community.

The Nigerian Community to me is a great a mix of culture, love, laughter, peace, a great society of individuals with a drive to excel in life. The Nigerian community and Coventry itself is a home away from home. The vibe you get from the Coventry community and my fellow Nigerians gives you the courage to do your best and stay happy.

My experience in Coventry University as an international student has been nothing but awesome. The university has always, and is still growing month by month and year by year. It is rated amongst the best universities in the country and was ranked 12th by the Guardian University Guide 2018. It was also awarded Gold for Outstanding Teaching and Learning by Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF 2017). The very exciting thing about Coventry University is its strength in the diversity of students and academic experience and the efforts all staffs and students put in to increase opportunities for internationals.

Coventry University has made me much more confident as a person and my experience back in 2015 when I stepped into the shores of United Kingdom to my Masters now has been tremendous. The staff in my course were very supportive and made my academic experience worthwhile. A good decision I made when coming to Coventry university was being part of the Student Representation system through the student’s union. It gave me an opportunity to make decisions regarding students’ welfare, allowed me to create a good relationship with lecturers on my course and gave me the chance to raise concerns/suggestions that will better the experience of every student in my course. Also, I got involved in the student union election where I was elected as the first Vice President for Postgraduate of Coventry University Students Union 2016/2017 (CUSU), and later got re-elected as the President for 2017/2018. The journey as leader has been nothing but exciting and I can only thank the university and students for this opportunity.

The Coventry University Students’ Union gives students an excellent experience. A union where every student is given the opportunity to be part of a society or club as well as gain a vast experience. I joined the Nigerian Society when I arrived at Coventry University and enjoyed every bit of it. I was elected as the provost of the society. This January 2018, the Nigerian Society will be going on a trip to Turkey for about 12days and 80% of the trip is sponsored by the Centre for Global Engagement, Coventry University.

My goal is to continue my career in the business industry and also become a successful entrepreneur by 2025.

I studied International Business (MSc) with Merit 2015/2016.
