‘A random act of kindness is a selfless act performed by a person or a group wishing to either assist or to cheer up an individual person.’ The idea is to be kind, thoughtful, use your manners, give out compliments, volunteer, and/or forgive someone.
Random acts of kindness don’t need to be over the top or a huge display, they just need to have good intentions and require minimal time. So with that in mind, let’s talk about how you can get involved today:
1. Give a compliment to someone
As you’re reading this, if you’re sat with a friend, fellow student or co-worker, simply turn to them and give them a quick compliment. It will brighten their day and probably yours too, as they might return the compliment.
2. Hold the door open for someone
This may seem like a small task, but can make a big difference. It’s all about using your manners and thinking of others.
3. Let someone go in front of you whilst driving
If you notice that someone is trying to pull out on to the road, slow down and let them out, it shouldn’t add too much time to your journey.
4. Send a nice text to a friend or family member
Spend just 2 minutes sending a nice text message, email or Facebook message to a friend or relative you may not have spoken to recently. A quick “hey, how are you?” can sometimes be just what someone needs.
5. Share the love of coffee
If you’re queuing up for a coffee or hot beverage from your favourite coffee shop, offer to buy the person behind you or in front of you their coffee. It will hopefully only cost you a few quid, but will really make someone’s day.
6. Give someone your best, biggest smile
We all know the classic lyric “when you’re smiling, the whole world smiles with you”, so why not give someone a friendly smile and spread the happiness?!
