Meet The SSMA’s: Hi Kyle!

You may remember that last month we sent out our ‘CU Needs You’ request to look for 2 brand new Student Social Media Assistants (SSMA) to work with the University throughout August.
Well, that search is now complete, and we thought it might be nice to introduce you to the 2 newest members of the team!

The SSMA’s are here to help on our social media channels with any questions, concerns, and queries you may have, over what is a very busy time for new and prospective students. They shall also be creating and sharing lots of fantastic articles and posts here at UnCOVered, so keep a look out over the next few weeks, and enjoy some new student voices on our blog!

So, without further ado – here’s Kyle!

“Hey I’m Kyle, a fourth year Journalism and Media student and semi-professional Pokémon trainer. You can usually find me playing video games or listening to one of about 50 podcasts that I enjoy…it’s only slightly a problem! So far this summer I’ve been working on eating healthy and getting fit… Its going okay at the moment, but it’s now getting hard to resist a good chocolate bar!

I spent my first two years in Coventry studying Journalism and Media. I don’t think you’d be able to find a more varied and enjoyable degree. Don’t let anyone tell you that ‘journalism isn’t hard’, because you kept busy almost constantly. Most of my days in Uni are spent filming, reporting, recording audio, stressing out – and then looking forward to doing it all over again!

Journalism is definitely never boring, and during my time here I’ve reported on a number of stories. But my favourite has to be when I got to interview a scientist about a mission to the moon that he was planning. I got to talk to him for a good half an hour about his plans and aims for the project. My interview even got broadcast on a local Coventry radio station, so I was a little… Over the moon. (Sorry!)

That was all about 2 years ago at this point. Between then and now I was on an Erasmus year in Sweden. The thing most people want to know about Sweden is, what are their Ikea’s like? Unfortunately, they are almost exactly the same as the one we have right here in Coventry!

Outside of Ikea though, Sweden is a beautiful country. I was studying in Lund University, which is right at the bottom of Sweden. It was exciting being in a new country, and pretty overwhelming at first, but once I settled in it wasn’t too hard to handle. Its surprisingly similar to the UK and everyone there speaks fluent English, so thankfully I didn’t have any embarrassing language problems!

Now that I’m back I’ve joined the Social Media team here at Coventry University. I’m going to be helping man the social media channels. So if you have any questions about the university and clearing over the next few weeks, I’ll be here to answer them. I’m looking forward to taking on the job and can’t wait to get started.

I’ll also be on here, flexing my journalistic muscles by posting up blogs every week! I’ll be writing about a wide range of university topics…. and I promise they’ll be less self obsessed than this one…. Maybe!

To conclude, here are some fun facts about myself.

  • I own all 721 Pokémon on my DS.
  • I once actually managed to burn my cereal!
  • Read all the Harry Potter books 3 times.
  • Lover of dumb internet videos.”
