This year the city of Coventry is competing to become the UK’s City of Culture 2021. We are proudly backing the bid for the city of Culture title is an initiative that could change our city forever.

What is UK City of Culture?

The City of Culture is a title awarded to a different city within the UK every four years. Once awarded, where they become a national hub for cultural and artistic activities for that year. The initiative is judged by the government’s Department for Culture, Media and Sport, and aims to celebrate and showcase all the culture we have here in the UK. Other aims include:

  • Attract media attention by aligning national arts and cultural organisations together.
  • Encourage cultural and creative activity.
  • Boost national tourism.

Every year, several cities battle for the sought-after title and this year, we’re backing Coventry to be the City of Culture 2021!

Becoming the city of culture not only has a positive impact on the city, but also on the University, and most importantly to you! Coventry is so full of culture it is almost bursting, with a vast number of cool bars, homely pubs and fantastic gig venues. The city is full of quirky places to relax, places to go and delicious food to eat, such as the trendy Inspire Cafe Bar or the popular Cosmo Restaurant.

We want to celebrate the recognition that the UK City of Culture 2021 would bring to the city, propelling Coventry forward as the hub of cultural and artistic creativity.
