The top 12 April Fools’ Day pranks

This post is brought to you by Kirsty…

Happy April Fools’ Day, everyone! We thought of loads, but they required months and months of planning, so instead we decided to compile a list of 12 of what we thought were the best large-scale April Fools’ Day pranks of this year.

1) One newspaper tried to claim that a sinkhole had opened up on the Coronation Street cobbles causing filming to stop.

2) The Metro claimed the British government  had a plan to ban selfies.

3) The Guardian in Australia ran a story about a popular Australian dessert called the “Lamington” they said that new evidence had show the dessert was actually created in New Zealand.

4) ITV tried to claim some chickens had been reared that were able to produce square eggs. I wish that were true.

5) The Express tried to convince football supporters that Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur would begin to share the Emirates stadium.

6) Wolverhampton commuters turned up to their train station this morning to find it renamed “Wolverine” station. After initially thinking it was all a big joke, it seems to be a promotion for the new X-MEN film.

7) The Telegraph claimed Alex Salmond would replace the Queen on the pound coin if Scotland votes ‘yes’ to independence.

8) The Mirror claimed North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un had banned One Direction from entering his country unless they copied his hair cut

9) There was a tweet from Google Maps with a job advert for a “pokemon master”.

10) The Guardian also ran a story claiming the Scottish population would switch to driving on the right if a yes vote for independence went through.

11) The King’s College Choir claimed their high notes would now be completed with the aid of helium.

12) And finally one newspaper columnist tried to advertise a new “instawindow” allowing you to “transform” your view with a permanent instagram filter option. I also wish that one were true, because Instagram doesn’t yet rule our lives enough.

There they are. Tweet us @covcampus to tell us about some of the most hilarious April Fools’ Day pranks you’ve ever played on someone – or had played on you.
