MotoFest aims to showcase past, present and futuristic designs in motor engineering from Friday 30th May till Sunday 1st June 2014. With a £0 admission fee, the event is very accessible and open to everyone to come and enjoy this great occasion. The location of the event will be based in and around Coventry City Centre, with many events taking place in areas such as; Broadgate, Belgrade Plaza and Odeon Cinema to name a few.
As a result, the City Centre will experience a transformation whereby 3 new temporary venues will be created. Firstly, the live action arena will be made through Cox St. car park and play host to stock car displays and a triumph motorcycle stunt show by Kevin Carmichael. Secondly, the MotoFest Byatt’s Live Stage will present some insightful guest speakers as well as featuring an array of live band performances, to provide music entertainment outside of the Transport Museum. Finally, for the first time in its 40-year history, the ring road will be closed for this special occasion, as the vehicles will not be limited to just being great spectacles across the duration of the festival. For this weekend only, visitors will have the opportunity to sit in the passenger seat of a real racecar, whilst also spectating around 110 engines being revved up to complete the 2.3-mile circuit around the City Centre.
As an official sponsor of the event, there will also be various things going on around the University Campus. The University square will host Peugeot and Citroen, whilst future tech and Jaguar Land Rover will be situated at the Coventry University Faculty of Engineering and Computer Building, with Skoda alongside Coventry University Careers and Employability at TheHub respectively. Food and drink will also be on offer at the Square One bar that will be accompanied by a BBQ, to add to the festive summer spirit. In addition, the annual Coventry University Automotive Degree show will also take place during the weekend in the Maurice Foss Building, allowing visitors and student alike to view a range of exciting and innovative projects by our final year students.
It must be noted that Coventry has always been at the forefront of technology with a world-renowned reputation and although this may be a surprise for some, it’s no surprise as to why these great assets are being celebrated during MotoFest. This event isn’t just focused upon history and heritage as “it’s also about the future and encouraging young people to get involved in manufacturing and motorsport”. With a tremendous exhibition of cars, motorcycles, trucks, buses, films, stock cars, armoured vehicles, taxis, art, stalls, design, education, prototypes, engineering and potentially some bicycles, there’s something for everyone to experience and enjoy.
