Confucius Institute Launch Week

It promises to be an exciting week on campus as the final touches to the Coventry University Confucius Institute Opening Ceremony are being made. The ceremony itself takes place on Thursday 12th May, and here’s how you can get involved…

Following the announcement of CU launching its new Confucius Institute last year, there has been a lot of anticipation and build up to the launch, which takes place on campus on Thursday 12th May. The collaboration between CU and long-standing partner Jiangxi University of Finance and Economics (JUFE) in Nanchang, China, will see the only Confucius Institute in the West Midlands with a specific focus on fostering social and economic development, as well as the promotion of international trade.

So what’s going on in launch week?

As you’d expect, there will be lots of different fun and cultural activities happening over the course of Wednesday 11th May & Thursday 12th May.

On Wednesday 11th May, students from CU and JUFE will be hosting an artistic performance, featuring a number of dance routines, taking place in Square One from 17:30. This rich cultural experience is available to both students and the general public, with free tickets available from TheHub or by emailing: confuciusinstitute@coventry.ac.uk.

You can also follow the event on our social media channels by using #confuciuscoventry or on the official CU Snapchat account. You can add us using Coventry_Uni!

Thursday 12th May

The second day of activities sees the Opening Ceremony take pride and place at the top of the schedule, along side a celebration of Chinese cultural activities such as lantern making, Chinese paper cutting and martial arts workshops. There will also be a traditional lion dance! You’ll find a huge marquee in University Square where all of the days events are taking place so you can’t miss it! Expect lots of red, lots of people and lots of celebration!
