Valentine’s Day …on a budget!

The wind is still strong and the snow is still falling at night, but our hearts are all a little warmer when Valentine’s Day is right around the corner. Dreaming of a fabulous memorable day, but stuck with a humble budget? Don’t panic, it is possible! There are many romantic ways to help you sweeten your Valentine’s Day, without going broke.
Here are five of our favourites that will make you look good, and cost you next to nothing! Go and win some hearts…

  1. Handmade gifts

poemWhat is more romantic on a cold Valentine’s Day then snuggling with your sweetheart? There’s only one way it can get better, if you’re both under a special blanket that’s been decorated by you! All you need is a white blanket and a box of acrylic coloured pens. Use the acrylic pens to write down a poem for your partner on the blanket, and don’t worry – the ink from these pens doesn’t fade away, even when washed! You don’t need to be a distinguished poet to do this, just put your own words of love. A sincere love letter will touch their heart more than anything else, especially when it’s presented in a creative and different way.
Trust me, “your blanket of poems” will warm them up from both the outside and the inside.

  1. Free art exhibition: Recording Britain
Recording Britain
Thomas Hennell (1903-1945) Winchcombe Pottery, Winchcombe, Gloucestershire. E.1461-1949

If both of you are art enthusiasts, why not consider spending your Valentine’s Day wandering around an art gallery together? The serene atmosphere there is perfect for romantic moments. Even better, a new collection of iconic British landmarks and postcard images from V&A is coming to Herbert Art Gallery this week. So you two don’t need to go to London to enjoy beautiful watercolours by prolific artists such as John Piper and Kenneth Rowntree. In addition to works from the original collection, the Recording Britain exhibition will feature a host of contemporary works including paintings and photographs by Conrad Atkinson, Richard Long, David Nash and Laura Oldfield Ford. You can also take a look at some works depicting the landscape of Coventry and Warwickshire. You can also buy a National Art Pass as a Valentine’s Day gift. It allows you to enjoy thousands of artwork collections around the UK for substituted ticket prices.

The ticket price for two may be triple that of the chocolate box, but the experience you will have together is really worth the money. The good news is that their 4D chocolate adventure has just opened this month! Don’t think that it’s just for kids; it’s the ideal place for recording romantic moments too. There will be hearts (and chocolate) melting everywhere, and the best bit of all is that you can enjoy the sweet taste of chocolate as much as you want along the way! You can visit Cadbury World at Linden Road, Bournville, Birmingham, but be sure to book your visit online to guarantee entry and save 5% of the ticket price.

  1. Romantic dinner at home
