Our Man in Shanghai

Design Shanghai: 27th February – 2nd March 2014

Course Director of Interior Design Bob Verheijden is currently in Shanghai to launch two pieces of furniture that he has designed for the University’s planned PHNIX Collection in collaboration with local craft manufacturers Sitting Firm.

chair

The PHNIX Chair (a seat with four potential directions – the chair back can be fitted on any side of the seat, with the possibility of specifying a large family of symmetric and asymmetric chairs in different colours and woods)

stool

The M-Stool (referring to Modern windsor, Manmade furniture and Marian)

Sitting Firm is well known as a producer of the modern windsor chair in the UK, and produces handcrafted series of special products for a range of clients including John Lewis, The Victoria & Albert Museum and The National Trust. They export their furniture across the world. Both pieces of furniture are made from specially selected hardwoods (oak, walnut, ash, elm, maple, beech) from sustainable UK sources.

The Design Shanghai Exhibition is expected to attract 40,000 visitors over four days. Exhibitors include Alessi, Tom Dixon, Flos, Fritz Hansen, HAY, Magis and Moooi – illustrious company indeed – we wish Bob every success.
