Moving On Up

The Times and Sunday Times University Guide 2015

times

Coventry University has moved up the Times and Sunday Times University Guide 2015 league table by 3 places, taking us to 42nd overall (the highest any post 1992 University has ever achieved). We have also been named ‘University of the Year for Student Experience 2015’ and, for the second year running, ‘Modern University of the Year’.

The University was also shortlisted for the overall ‘University of the Year 2015’ category (awarded to our neighbours The University of Warwick) – this (of course) remains a future aspiration.

Well done us!

He said: “It is a very prestigious competition. Rapid prototyping and 3D printing is the future and to have a prize in this arena shows that I am proactively seeking out solutions for the future. The judges liked my idea because it was innovative. The prize money will come in very useful but the networking I have experienced through the placement and the competition are more valuable than anything.”

Automotive & Transport Design

The show began yesterday with a VIP and Press preview, during which we enjoyed awards success with Product Design graduand Alex Daniels finishing runner up in the Business Design Centre New Designer of the Year Award 2014 (Part 2). This was arguably the highest accolade of the evening awarded to an Industrial Designer (first place going to Graphics). Alex was presented with his trophy, a cheque for £500 and a bottle of Absolut vodka by keynote speaker Sir John Sorrell. Alex’s design for a walking aid caught the judges’ attention by innovatively addressing an un-glamorous design problem. They commented: “Taking on an unglamorous product, Alex has brought a fresh new approach and an elegant solution to the walking aid. He has made it into an inclusive product suitable for both the elderly and injured.”
