What are you listening to today? Check out our music playlist for this week. We’ve picked tunes to match your mood, from sleepy Mondays to Friday nights out on the town. Don’t forget to let us know which song you would add to our playlist!
‘The Fifth’ by David Garrett
Starting a lecture at 9:00 am on Monday is not always an easy task, especially for those night owls who’ve stayed up late the night before. You’ll need some strong and motivational beats to get yourself back on track for studying. We think that Beethoven’s 5th Symphony, re-imagined by David Garrett, is the perfect choice. David, regarded as “the Beckham of the violin” is absolutely stunning in this performance! A classical Beethoven movement with the added touch of rock will surely get you focused and in the mood to study. Listen to it on the way to your first lecture, but don’t forget you’ll still need that large cup of coffee too!
#Tuesday in the library
‘River flows in you’ by Yurima
A study day in the library doesn’t have to be a boring and sleepy day. Music can help! Music has been proven to be a powerful tool to help you learn faster. To find the right music for you, break your learning process down into the following 3 stages: Relaxation, Active learning and Memory Consolidation (according to RAM Music Effect by Lozanov).
The relaxation stage takes place before you begin studying. During this stage, Lozanov suggests that you listen to 3-5 minutes of relaxation music to help your brain enter the optimal learning state. This ensures that your brain is most receptive to learning new information. My suggestion is Yiruma’s piano music, especially the tracks called ‘River flows in you’, ‘Kiss the rain’ and ‘When the love falls’.
We’ll share our tracks for the other two stages on our blog next week!
#Wednesday work out
‘Rhythm is a dancer’ by Snap
Need more strength to stay productive this week? Clear your timetable for a spot of gym time and turn on this track to get you moving. This will raise your energy levels and your productivity.
“Let the rhythm ride you, guide you
Sneak inside you, set your mind to move
To its pulsation, bass vibrations
Sense sensation, pause is not implicit
Mind and body must be free too
Please take it all way, nothing to lose
Everything to win”
Also try listening the remix version by Tabata which is designed especially for work outs.
‘Sweet Life’ by Frank Ocean
This jazzy R&B track is perfect for a cooking night at home. Whether you are cooking for yourself, or creating a romantic meal for two, the smooth and lush melody of this track will match the theme of indulgence perfectly.
“Keepin’ it surreal, whatever you like
Whatever feels good, whatever takes you mountain high
Keepin’ it surreal, not sugar-free
My TV ain’t HD, that’s too real
Grapevine, mango, peaches and limes, the sweet life, sweet life, sweet life…”
#Friday night out
‘We are young’ by Fun ft. Janelle Monae
When it comes to Friday you realise that time really can fly past, so it’s important to enjoy life! The weekend is right around the corner, get dressed up and have a blast with your beloved friends! Where are you heading to tonight? Where is the best place for Cov Uni students? Tell us your choice in the comments section below.
We are young
So let’s set the world on fire
We can burn brighter than the sun”
‘La vie En Rose’ by Edith Piaf
This legendary song would never lose its place in the heart of lovers and romantics around the world. We would recommend that the best three cover versions are by Andrea Bocelli, Tina May and Daniella Andrade. The sweet melody and passionate lyrics will make you feel like you are floating on white clouds, with rose petals falling from the sky. This track also provides the perfect backdrop for a slow dance.. Happy Saturday!!
#Sunday room tidying
‘Happy working song’ by Amy Adams
“Yes you can do a lot when you got
Such a happy working tune to hum
While you’re sponging up the soapy scum”
Turn boring chores and tedious tasks into an entertaining dance routine with this lovely happy song. The sprightly tune and funny lyrics will bring you that Disney feeling of happiness and energy. Dancing as you clean is a brilliant way to spend a Sunday morning.
Ah, wasn’t this fun?
